The symbols used on this website were created by the American Institute of Graphics Arts (AIGA) and the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) in the 1970s. When I programmed this webpage, I wanted to use design elements that were fairly timeless, because I knew if I didn't I would be constantly tinkering with them. These copyright-free images are available for download at http://www.aiga.org/content.cfm/symbol-signs.I downloaded them and wrote a program using ImageMagick, a Linux/DOS application, to automatically color and resize them for my needs. The program looks like this:
@echo off convert %1.gif -fill white -colorize 60%% %1_temp.png convert %1_temp.png -fill %1 -tint 125 %1.jpg convert -resize x25 %1.jpg %1_25.jpg convert -resize x50 %1.jpg %1_50.jpg
Hosting for this website is provided by boxIT, which is a web hosting and IT services company owned by my friend Thor.
